Independent Editorial Assessment

Our Verdict

Kindle Colorsoft brings colour to Amazon’s e-ink range, so book covers, comics, cookbooks and children’s picture books look the way they were designed. Text stays at a sharp 300 ppi in black and white, while colour renders at 150 ppi – softer than a tablet, but without the glare or the notifications. The warm light, IPX8 waterproofing and up to eight weeks per USB-C charge (based on half an hour of reading a day) match what people like about the Paperwhite. Amazon notes the colour layer makes the screen look slightly different from a Paperwhite, so readers of plain novels may not need it.

Written by the ÉireStop editorial team. Based on manufacturer specifications, owner feedback and a manual check of the Amazon.ie listing (seller, plug type) on 17 Oct 2026. We have not tested this product hands-on.

Key Features & Irish Specs

  • 7-inch Colorsoft display: 300 ppi in black and white, 150 ppi in colour, with built-in light

Is it right for you?

Great for

  • Comic, graphic-novel and cookbook readers
  • Readers who like to highlight in colour

Skip it if

  • You only read novels – the black-and-white Paperwhite costs less
  • You expect tablet-bright colour – at 150 ppi it is softer and more muted
